Malaria
Mozambique falls within the dangerous malaria zone. The international health organization, Mozambique and South African authorities have done a major drive to reduce malaria in Southern Mozambique. This had a positive reduction on malaria in Southern Mozambique.
The best prevention is personal protection against the mosquito. Malaria mosquitoes generally bite after dark. Wear long sleeves and trousers in the afternoon and evening; stay in-doors if possible. Use insect repellent on exposed skin. Sleep under a mosquito net or in a netted tent or hut or in a house or caravan with screens. Close windows and doors at night. Spray insecticide aerosol and/or burn mosquito coil at night.
Consult your physician on the use of prophylaxis.
For detailed information on malaria in Southern Mozambique, the prevention and treatment of malaria visit www.malaria.org.za
Please make sure that you inform your physician that you visited a malaria risk area should you experience any  flu related symptoms , headaches or other pains in the first 4 weeks following your visit to Mozambique. Insist on a proper malaria test if you experience any of the above symptoms. It may be necessary to have more than one test as sometimes the virus can only be detected when a malaria patient has a fever outbreak.
Jellyfish/blue bottle
Most jellyfish stings result in skin eruptions, which appear as a painful, raised, red rash that itches. The rash is usually limited to the area of skin that came into direct contact with the jellyfish.  The lesions can last for days to weeks. Severe stings can result in skin sloughing (peeling off) and deep wounds.
Sometimes, an allergic reaction can occur in response to the initial sting, which can lead to swelling and further inflammation of the skin.
Stings involving the eyes result in local inflammation, redness, swelling and tearing. Severe stings to the eyes can lead to abrasions, which can scar and potentially harm eyesight.
Treatment
Remove the victim from the water.
Rinse the affected area with salt water or don’t rinse it at all. Do not rinse the involved area of skin with fresh water, because it will further activate nematocysts and worsen the reaction.
Using protective gloves or forceps, remove any tentacles still in contact with the victim.
Apply acetic acid 5% (white vinegar). This will inactivate undischarged nematocysts and the toxin and will help to decrease symptoms.
Use over-the-counter pain medications to control pain symptoms. Immobilize the area that was poisoned to prevent further spread. For example, if a foot was stung, encourage the victim to keep the area still with as little movement as possible.
If the victim appears ill, do the following:
Lay the victim down.
If the victim begins vomiting, roll the victim onto his or her side so that the vomit is not breathed in.
Snakes
Several venomous and non venomous snakes are found in Southern Mozambique. Snakes are naturally shy animals and will never attack unprovoked. Use a flashlight at night, look where you are walking and never attempt to handle or kill a snake, even if it appears to be dead. In the unlikely event of finding a snake in your accommodation contact security or management.
Sharks
There are no shark nets at the resort. There has been no incidence of shark attacks but please follow universal safety guidelines and do not swim in early morning or at sunset as this is when sharks are active and may find it difficult to distinguish between a human figure and it's natural prey.
Night safety
Our resort is very safe with 24 hour security. Although serious crime in Mozambique is much lower than in South Africa it is always prudent to take basic safety measures. Do not walk alone on the beach at night. Women should not venture to far away from the resort's beach area on their own.
